Happy Lunar New Year!
The big thing this weekend at the Disney California Adventure is probably the celebration of the Lunar New Year.
This year, it's the Year Of The Monkey
Be advised, I am going to be going back and forth between Disney California Adventure and Disneyland a couple of times throughout the morning.
Entering Disney California Adventure...
In-Your-Face Signs proclaiming AP Days at the Disneyland Resort
Valentine's Day themed Shelly Mae and Duffy
All of a sudden I hear the opening spiel for Disney California Adventure.
I quickly exit the stores and head out towards Carthay Circle
There's hardly any Guests!
Like previous years, Paradise Pier is hosting the Lunar New Year celebration
Later on, we will see these venues in use
Because I needed to check something while it was still relatively slow, before it got busy, I headed over to Disneyland
Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante is now serving breakfast
If that's the case, then what's going on over at the River Belle Terrace?
Empty tables and chairs
River Belle Terrace is closed until Feb 10, 2016
It will reopen to become a table service location
Apparently it will only serve Lunch and Dinner.
Menu items include ribs, chicken, seafood, sides, and dessert.
It will be inspired by southern style barbecue dishes
Over at the Hungry Bear Restaurant, the lower level wall that has been installed while the River gets worked on for Star Wars Land continues with some more theming.
The ramp leading up to the top level also got some new posters
Country Bear portraits dress up the tarps
I guess it's just the 5 portraits, as they repeat after the piano
The Railroad conductor notices the new banner at the train station
Are they expecting a huge crowd for "it's a small world"? ha ha
Autopia continues with it's refurbishment
Thank you Honda and your financial contribution.
Without you, Autopia's color scheme would still be stuck in the Tomorrowland '98 - 04 era
Going back to Disney California Adventure...
The on-ride photos at the attractions now mention about the Disneyland Mobile App and PhotoPass
My hilarious reaction to the drop would have been great to look at, if it hadn't dropped into another dimension
The Blue Sky Cellar (along with Stage 17) hosting AP Days
Unfortunately, like other Day Paying Guests, I can't step inside
If I were to go inside, I would find:
• Charging stations for my devices
• Coloring and Crafting
• Animated shorts and historical footage
• AP Day buttons
Stage 17 and Main Street Opera House includes
• Complimentary popcorn and water
Heading to Paradise Garden Grill area for the Lunar New Year celebration with Mulan and Mushu
Got there a bit late that I got a side view showing
The Mulan Parade BGM plays as they come down the route and perform
That will conclude today's pictorial
Thanks for stopping by and checking it out
Feel free to leave a comment
Until Next Time...
Nice title! Great pics!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the parks, especially the Lunar New Year celebration.
ReplyDeleteMy family had the chance to go last year during the Lunar New Year promotion. We enjoyed the festivities, which I think falls under the category, designed for Annual Passholders to have something to new to see, but nice for an occasional visitor to come across by accident.
However, I thought that the parade location was not ideal. Where visitors were allowed to stand was not clear, and once the cultural performers reached the performance area, unless you were across the walkway from the performers or at least in front of the performers, it was not a very good view. This kind of show really should be on a proper stage. You would almost have had to see the parade once before to know where to wait.
For the Lunar New Year celebration with Mulan, I thought they would have face in my direction, where I was standing. It wasn't until they brought out the drum and had them set up did I realize that the performers were going to face Jumpin' Jellyfish.
DeleteMaybe they should do it like they do the Feliz Navidad celebration. Along the parade route and spread out so that everyone gets a chance to see a frontal view of it.
Your photos of the cultural performance looked great. I think the difference is facing the performers and at least a little distance away. We ended up near the Goofy's Sky School water tower behind the performers, because our kids couldn't see over people in the front and we needed to be in front.
DeletePerforming along the parade route would be ideal, but I don't think the performers are used to doing that. I got the impression that Disney recruited a local martial arts school and cultural group to perform, but they're not paid entertainers.
I haven't seen Feliz Navidad first-hand, so I don't know how that works. Mariachi dancers seem to work better travelling with a parade route, though.
My daughter's middle school orchestra will be performing at California Adventure next weekend. I'm pretty sure they will be on the stage at Hollywood Land. It's interesting that the students get in for free, but parent chaperones have to pay for admission to the park.
I'm pretty sure Disney brings out outside performers to do the performance. Now, I don't know if they are given the music and come up with a choreography on their own, of if Disney hires an outside company and then are given specific dance moves for the performance.
DeleteAbout your daughter's middle school performance, the only thing I can think of about them getting in free while parents and chaperons have to pay is probably because the kids are entertaining for free. I assume chaperoning is voluntary, so Disney probably doesn't see a need to let the "volunteers" in for free.
I dunno though.
You do this nearly once a week visit without an annual pass?
ReplyDeleteYeah
