We have about a week before Halloween, but we will soon see that the Disneyland Resort is already getting things ready for Christmas.
One could say that "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas", but I feel that statement has been used way too much. And now I see it as cliche
And in just a bit over three weeks from now, it will be the Season of the Force at Disneyland, which is inspired by Star Wars
First stop, Disney California Adventure

Flik's Fun Fair is in the holiday spirit
Passing Radiator Springs Racers as I head off to Paradise Pier
It does look like storm is brewing in the background
But the clouds will burn off a bit later. And the day will be sunny and bright, with a bit of a haze.

Look at all those sea gulls on top of the rock work of Cars Land, and the mess they have made.
Gross!
Christmas merchandise already on shelves
ShellieMay has made her merchandise debut
Of course, neither of them are available for any type of Meet and Greet as Disney has discontinued that here in California as well as Florida
But you can still buy their stuff!
Poles have been placed once again for the hanging garland that will be strung across Route 66 for Christmas Time

First we saw and orange car.
Then a turquoise car.
Now, we see a blue car has arrived at Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters
Days are numbered for Aladdin as it will soon make way for Frozen
To commemorate the release of animated blockbuster hit, Aladdin [Diamond Edition] on DVD / Blu-Ray, for a limited time, one lucky viewer at each performance will win a free digital download of the animated movie
Winner! Winner! Winner!
FastPass still needed to meet Anna and Elsa inside the Animation Building
Different Mickey and Minnie nutcrackers available
The Main Street Horse Drawn Street Car is welcoming me to Disneyland
The past four Fridays I have visited Disneyland, Space Mountain has been closed in the mornings. At first, I just passed it off as typical technical difficulties, especially with it being Ghost Galaxy. No Guests were on the concourse above, so it's couldn't be the usually back-up break down.
But as it kept happening over and over, I began to think that it's too much of a coincidence for it to be down every time I come into Disneyland, as the Park has already been open for at least an hour every time.
I began to think that maybe it's not the typical break down or technical difficulties. What if ... well, like I said, in just a little more than three weeks Disneyland will host Season of the Force. And Space Mountain will be part of that promotion with Hyper Space Mountain. What if the down times occurring the mornings were of some WDI testing of Hyper Space Mountain.
The Tomorrowland Terrace stage is under refurbishment for its transformation for the Jedi Training: Trails of the Temple, which is part of the Season of the Force promotion, based on the Disney XD series, Star Wars Rebels
But of course, the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple is scheduled to start in December
"it's a small world" closed for its Holiday overlay
Earlier in the week, Space Mountain was doing some testing with its FastPass system.
First test was that Guests were to scan their FastPass barcode against a small box. If accepted, a green circular light would illuminate, indicating that the FastPass is valid. Similar to the Magic Band technique at Walt Disney World.
Second test, an RFID was embedded into FastPass, so the Guests didn't need to scan their barcode.
Some cool Space Mountain themed merchandise
Apparently Space Mountain isn't the only one doing some testing while the Park has been open.
Star Tours has been doing some testing of its own, with the new Star Wars scene inspired by Star Wars The Force Awakens
Splash Mountain closed?
There's no water coming down the fall
Nope.
It's open.
It's so weird to see the logs go down the fall with no water
But the splash effect works
And yes, there is water at the base of the splash down. So Guests will still get wet.
Here is a short video showing the logs traveling down the climatic drop without any water
A roped themed queue for Guests who want to enter City Hall
Christmas is coming!
Well, that will conclude this weeks pictorial
Thanks for stopping by and checking it out.
Feel free to leave a comment
Until Next Time...
Thanks for the update Mint!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to what Grizzly Peak Airfield will look like for Christmas. :)
Oh yeah. Condor Flats was never really decorated in any way for Christmas (unless you count the final scene of Disneyland during Christmas on Soarin' Over California)
DeleteI wonder if they will have any kind of Christmas BGM playing there too. It will be interesting to see.
Great photos, as always.
ReplyDeleteI never thought they could run the logs on Splash Mountain without water. Doesn't it damage the bottom of the boats? I suppose, from the rider's perspective, they don't notice the lack of water going down the flume (kind of like the mini splash effect on Big Grizzly Mountain at Hong Kong Disneyland?).
Pretty soon the top of that rockwork in Cars Land will be ALL white. And then Disney can make up some new "storytelling" to explain how it got that way.
Are you looking forward to the Star Wars version of Space Mountain? Part of me is afraid it will be too popular, and we'll never get the classic version of Space Mountain back.
What do you think about crowds once the Frontierland closures start early next year? Do you think Disney will come up with new entertainment or promotions to keep the crowds coming in? Or do you think the crowds will drop off considerably through the winter and spring?
The only other time I know they ran the logs down the last drop without water was on the Splash Mountain Rap video. ha ha.
DeleteI don't know if by not running water over the last fall damages the logs or not. I would assume that the water lubricates the wheels on the side of the logs, but by the time they reach the final drop, the wheels are already lubricated from the water throughout the attraction. Maybe the water just helps the log go down the drop faster.
I am looking forward to Hyper Space Mountain. But it's what will happen after the Season of the Force promotion ends
What if Disneyland...
• keeps their word and just use Hyper Space Mountain as a temporary overlay and return if back to Classic form after the Season of the Force promotion.
• Disneyland extends Hyper Space Mountain after Season of the Force "due to overwhelming" Guest demand.
• Reverts Space Mountain back to Classic form, but still keep "Hyper" in the title
As far as Frontierland goes, I feel like Disneyland's way of thinking will be something along the lines of "Because the holidays are over, people are back at work or in school. So it will be the "off season" until Feb when Presidents Day comes and the start of Spring Break takes place. So we don't need to do anything in Frontierland. Plus they have Season of the Force in Tomorrowland for them to enjoy and keep them occupied"
After the Holidays, not only will you have ..
Fantasmic!
Mark Twain
Columbia
Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island
Canoes
Disneyland Railroad
But eventually you will have to close Haunted Mansion and Small World to transform them back to their pre-holiday overlay, and any other attraction(s) that have their routine maintenance work.
The last time I visited Disneyland in January, in 2013, the following were closed:
DeleteDL Railroad Main Street station (the other stations were open)
Mad Tea Party
Splash Mountain (1 1/2 month refurbishment)
Big Thunder Mountain (the extensive one year-plus refurbishment)
Mark Twain
Fantasmic!
If I remember correctly, they might have closed down the entire area of Critter Country, since the major attraction there plus the Hungry Bear restaurant were both closed.
Hopefully they will try to keep as much of the park open as possible, and not take down many E ticket attractions for refurbishments, but I think yearly refurbs for Splash Mountain and Indiana Jones are necessary, aren't they?
I've read that this October has been unusually crowded, like during the Christmas holidays. People think it's a combination of:
* the 60th anniversary celebration
* Halloween crowds,
* people trying to get in their last visits on their annual passes because they have decided not to renew because of the recent price increase
* people who want to experience the train and Rivers attractions before they close next year
* annual passholders visiting more often because they are trying to justify the increasing cost of their passes.
I can't imagine how crowded this year's holiday season (starting in early November) will be, with the Star Wars promotion starting around that time.
