Oh man, what a day.
Of all days for it to rain, it has to be when Condor Fla.... I mean, Grizzly Peak Airfield opens after its refurbishment from Condor Flats.
Knowing that rain was forecasted for Friday (UGH!), I had a small window to visit the Disneyland Resort on Thursday. I would get a few pictures before the rains came.
Rains did come on Thursday and for Friday. I went on Friday with the hopes that it would let up in the early morning, but it didn't
I eventually called it quits until the rain went away. After about 3 hours of rain, it stopped, and I knew it was my chance to go back to the Disneyland Resort
The Main Entrance to Disney California Adventure has some Disneyland60 color scheme bunting.
Hopefully there will be more than this because it looks very plain
The new guide maps for Disney California Adventure.
I don't understand why it's advertising Cars Land.
When Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened from its refurbishment, it got placed on the cover of the Disneyland guide map.
When Splash Mountain (Critter Country) reopened after its refurbishment, it got placed on the cover of the Disneyland Guide Map.
When all of Condor Flats reopened as Grizzly Peak Airfield, it doesn't get placed on the cover of the Disney California Adventure map.
As if Cars Land needs any more advertising. I think it's doing well on its own. Thank you very much!
Oh, there's a blurb about Soarin' Over California being in a place called Grizzly Peak
The new guide maps reflect the new Grizzly Peak Airfield
Although it's Grizzly Peak Airfield, it's gathered with the rest of Grizzly Peak (as a district)
Buena Vista Street bunting celebrating the 60th anniversary of Disneyland
Several windows along Buena Vista Street are getting into the act.
Letting you all know about the 60th celebration
The Carthay Circle Restaurant received the diamond treatment and got a diamond topper, just like the ones on Sleeping Beauty Castle
In the Elias and Company store....
They are having a celebration in honor of the 60th anniversary of Disneyland
And now the moment many have been waiting for ...

A couple more props appeared in the Smokejumpers Grill restaurant
The West side patio section of Smokejumpers Grill has reopened with the rest of Grizzly Peak Airfield
Fly 'n' Buy has been renamed Humphry's, in honor of Humphrey the Bear

Remnants of Condor Flats
Smokey the Bear gets some recognition on merchandise
All the new props inside Humphry's
How ironic!
A Davy Crockett (who killed himself a b'ar when he was only 3) movie post in a store named after a bear (Humphry)
Grow your own squoia
The map is an exagerated themed version of Grizzly Peak area, if it were actually in the forest
This map could was obviously purchased inside Humphry's

A newly themed Soarin' Over California sign
The outside of the building may be different, but the FastPass still looks the same
The outside says newly themed 2015
The inside still screams 2001
Firefighter equipment lockers
I wonder if Pilot Minnie will return. And if she does, will she get a newly themed outfit to fit the area
Seen as you head towards Grizzly River Run
Seen as you head inside from Grizzly River Run
I think Grizzly Peak Airfield turned out really nice.
Much better than the previous Condor Flats.
I can't wait for all of the plant life to grow and really make this place look green
Second floor awnings are blue for the 60th anniversary celebration
The Frozen Fun snowflake has finally been removed
Heading down Buena Vista Street
Disneyland time
Matterhorn was testing with Cast Members acting as riders.
Because of loading station exposed and "people" riding, many Guests thought the ride reopened earlier than planned

A shot of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters facade at night

ReplyDeleteGlad you finally got out there and saw Grizzly Peak. I was waiting for your article all day. Thank you! It looks great. I finally get to go tomorrow, so glad it opened on time.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping that the area would have been open on Thursday, so that I wouldn't have to go in the rain.
DeleteBut when I saw that it would indeed open the next day, Friday, I was a bit devastated because I knew that I would have to venture out in the rain.
I'm glad that the rain did finally stop so that I could get some decent shots. But because of that, it did push back my posting time. :)
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Thanks for another great post! I appreciate you sharing your photographs and can't wait to experience the new Grizzly Peak Airfield for myself in August.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your time checking out Grizzly Peak Airfield when you visit :)
DeleteI remembered that they were re-painting the It's a Small World speaker towers a few weeks ago. Any clue if they finished painting them? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI was there at 9am on Friday and it was pouring rain, how is your sorin' FP ticket not soaking wet?
ReplyDeleteAlthough the FastPass for Soarin' Over California was for 9:45 am, I actually took that picture later in the day after it had stopped raining.
DeleteThe original plan was to do that after I got the FastPass, but like you had mentioned, it was pouring rain. So I held on to it knowing that it might come in handy later on. ... and it did :)
